Live at the Barn ๐ŸŽถ

A Live Music Series in a 150-Year-Old Rustic Barn

There’s a room at Auld Farm Inn that doesn’t feel like anywhere else in Cape Breton. Built in 1876 as a working dairy barn, it’s been reimagined as an intimate concert venue โ€” axe-hewn timber beams overhead, string lights glowing after dark, and a floor built for standing close to the music rather than watching it from a distance.

Live at the Barn is our new music series, bringing Cape Breton musicians into that room for evenings that feel more like a gathering of friends than a typical concert. Every show is a little different โ€” some are quiet, seated, listening-room nights; others are full-on, get-up-and-dance evenings. Whatever the format, it’s live, it’s local, and it’s close.

The Setting ๐ŸŽป

  • Maximum capacity: 100 guests (as per fire regulations)
  • Layout: Flexible โ€” some shows are seated, others open-floor for dancing, depending on the artist and format
  • Atmosphere: Axe-hewn timber beams, string lighting, and a room with a hundred and fifty years of history in the walls

Every show in the series is shaped around the artist playing it, so the room might be set with chairs one night and cleared for dancing the next. Whichever the format, it stays intimate โ€” this isn’t a room built for a crowd to get lost in.

What to Expect ๐ŸŽค

Each show follows a similar shape, though details vary by event:

  • Doors open before the music starts, giving you time to settle in
  • A single artist or a full band, depending on the night
  • Bar service varies by event โ€” check the individual show listing for details
  • Shows typically wrap by midnight, in keeping with our commitment to our neighbours

We’ll always post the specific doors time, set time, and end time for each show individually, since they shift a little from artist to artist.

Stay the Night ๐Ÿก

If you’d like to make a night of it, Auld Farm Inn has four guest rooms on site, just steps from the barn.

  • Three rooms with queen beds
  • One room with a double and a twin bed
  • All rooms include private entrances and en-suite bathrooms
  • Views over the barn and surrounding farmyard

Ask about accommodation when you reserve your tickets, especially for shows running later into the evening.

Good to Know ๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ

To keep every show enjoyable for guests and neighbours alike:

  • Noise cut-off: Midnight for amplified or loud music
  • Liquor service: Varies by event โ€” some shows have a licensed bar, others don’t. Check the individual show listing

  • Seating: Limited to 100 guests per show โ€” early reservation is recommended
